Boda Boda cyclists in Kabale District have expressed their gratitude for the outgoing District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police (SP) Abel Ruganza, applauding his prompt response to their calls in managing crime.

In the recent police reshuffle, SP Ruganza has been reassigned to Lira City, with Joseph Bakaleke, the former DPC of Lira City, taking over as the new Kabale DPC. The official handover ceremony occurred at the Kabale Central Police Station, attended by notable police officials from the Kigezi region and Kabale District.

During the ceremony, a group of Boda Boda cyclists from Kabale town gathered outside to bid farewell to Ruganza. They accompanied him in a commendable motorcycle procession from the C.P.S to his residence in Kigongi Cell at the Police Barracks.

Alex Niwagaba, the General Secretary of the Kabale Boda Boda Association, expressed appreciation for SP Ruganza’s swift response to crime incidents affecting their industry. Niwagaba acknowledged the positive impact Ruganza had on stabilizing Kabale District, particularly in addressing the longstanding challenge of motorcycle theft and robberies.

The Association Chairperson, Allan Bwasheesha, echoed Niwagaba’s sentiments and expressed concerns about the timing of Ruganza’s transfer, considering his effective efforts in tackling prevalent issues. However, Bwasheesha assured their commitment to collaborating with the new DPC.

During his media address, SP Ruganza reflected on the challenges he faced during his two and a half years in Kabale. He highlighted the surge in murders and aggravated robberies between May and June 2023 as a significant hurdle. Ruganza credited the apprehension of all the culprits to the cooperation from the community, especially the Ghetto leaders of Kabale Town and the Boda Boda Cyclists.

Meanwhile, SP Bakaleke, the new Kabale DPC, pledged to continue the work initiated by his predecessor. Although it was his first time working in Kabale, Bakaleke expressed optimism that the residents would extend the same level of cooperation they provided to Ruganza.
