The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on graduates to uphold discipline, integrity, and professionalism as they step into the world of work.

He delivered this message during the 26th graduation ceremony of Uganda Christian University, Bishop Barham University College (BBUC), held at the St. Peter’s Cathedral grounds on Rugarama Hill in Kabale Municipality. A total of 353 students received degrees, diplomas, and certificates — among them 28 master’s graduates, 265 bachelor’s graduates, and 60 diploma recipients.

Archbishop Kaziimba urged the graduates to reflect the values of Uganda Christian University within their communities, emphasizing unity, character, and service. He reminded them that graduation marks the beginning of a new chapter where the determination and resilience they demonstrated during their studies will be essential as they face new professional challenges. He encouraged them to become agents of positive change in their workplaces.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi and Chairperson of the University Governing Council, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, reminded graduates that education is a gift and a responsibility. He warned against corruption and encouraged them to embody honesty, faithfulness, and moral integrity. He urged them to stay resilient, rely on God, and understand that meaningful success often grows from modest beginnings.

The Guest of Honour, Reuben Tumwebaze, Managing Director of Uganda Clays Limited, advised the graduates to acquire relevant and practical skills to remain competitive in an ever-changing world. He emphasized integrity as the foundation of long-term success and encouraged them to set clear goals, continue learning, and use Artificial Intelligence responsibly to enhance productivity. He also challenged female graduates to embrace practical skills and strategically position themselves for available opportunities.

The University Principal, Dr. Alice Kyobutungi, urged the graduates to remain grounded in their faith and to serve as ambassadors of the university. She encouraged them to put into practice the knowledge and skills they have acquired, to lead with integrity, and to uphold Christian values as they step into various spheres of society.
