Police in Rukungiri District have launched an investigation into the death of Atusasiire Mary Divine, an 8-year-old girl resident of Nyamabale Cell, Murama Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub County.
She was found deceased on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, around 5 p.m.
It is suspected that she was strangled and then dumped in a banana plantation by her maternal uncle, Nasasira Viani, who has a reputation for criminal activities in the area. Nasasira Viani had long-standing disputes with the deceased’s mother, who resides in Kampala.
Twinomujuni Wednesday, the Chairperson LC3 Nyakishenyi Sub County, condemned the heinous act and praised the community for not resorting to vigilantism.
The locals apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police for interrogation.
