Police in Sheema District have launched investigations following the murder of a 35-year-old woman whose body was found dumped in Bwooma village, Kitagata parish.
The deceased has been identified as Keyonyozi Bibiyana, a resident of Bushaba B cell in Ryengyerero parish, Rurehe sub-county, Mitooma District. Preliminary investigations suggest she may have been murdered in Rwakatara cell, Kabira Town Council, and her body later transported and dumped in Bwooma village.
Residents report that on Friday evening, 11th April 2025, the victim received a phone call from her sister-in-law, only identified as Nabagereka, urging her to visit a friend at Kabira Health Center II. It is believed that she was attacked and killed on her way there. However, the absence of blood at the location where the body was discovered has led residents to believe that the murder occurred elsewhere and the body was moved to Bwooma in Kitagata.
Rurehe LC3 Chairperson Evelyn Ainebyoona confirmed the incident and reiterated the suspicion that the murder took place in Kabira before the body was dumped in Sheema District. She added that the body was taken by Kitagata police for postmortem and later handed over to the family for burial. One suspect has already been detained in connection with the case.
Barigye Augustine, the LC2 chairperson of Rwanja West, also confirmed to Boona Radio that two suspects are currently in custody at Kitagata Police Station. He revealed that investigators used phone call logs found on the deceased to track and arrest the suspects.
Thousands of mourners gathered this afternoon at the deceased’s home in Bushaba B cell, Ryengyerero parish, Rurehe sub-county, where she was laid to rest.
