The Security Minister and Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County in Rukungiri District, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, has challenged the public to avoid speaking ill about the government, citing its significant achievements and warning that they risk judgment in heaven.
He made the challenge today, 3rd December 2025, while officiating at the launch of the ongoing Tarehe Sita projects as a mark of remembrance of the Tarehe Sita celebrations in the Kigezi region at Kakonkoma Primary School in Kigaaga Ward, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Brigade has commenced construction of a two-classroom block at Kikarara Primary School in Bwambara and Kakonkoma Primary School in Southern Division; a five-stance toilet at Rwakabengo Health Centre III; a four-stance toilet at Bufunda Primary School; staff houses at Ngoma Primary School and Ibanda Health Centre II in Nyakishenyi; an incinerator at Rukungiri Health Centre IV Rwamahwa; construction of Kabaranga Bridge in Nyakishenyi; and medical camps at Bugangari and Buhunga Health Centre IVs, among other activities.
Minister Jim Muhwezi challenged the public, noting that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has done its best to promote peace and freedom, which should be honoured over resistance, adding that God will judge them in heaven.
Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) General Kale Kayihura praised President Museveni for loving his country and ensuring peace and unity unlike neighbouring countries, and urged the public to support President Museveni for the achievements, stressing, “Had it not been for President Museveni, the country would be backward.”
Buroni Kikanshemeza, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rukungiri, commended government for the peace and freedom which neighbouring countries are vulnerable to, and appealed to the public to enjoy freedom of speech and avoid negativity towards government, attributing the achievements to peace and unity.
Brigadier General Justus Rukundo, the UPDF official who represented the army, explained the importance of the Tarehe Sita celebration in giving back to the public for security collaboration and promoting awareness on patriotism and voluntary work to support government.
Grace Kyomuhangi, the Headmistress of Kakonkoma Primary School, commended government for the provision of a classroom block, highlighting the severe challenges affecting the school, including dropout and absenteeism as a result of shortage of infrastructure, poor welfare, and health conditions.
Stephen Musasizi, the Chairperson LC1 of Rwobo Cell, appreciated President Museveni for the public relations with the army and development support.
This year’s Tarehe Sita celebration is slated for 6th February 2026 in Kisoro District for the Kigezi region under the theme: “Defending the gains of the Revolution and honoring the sacrifice of the Freedom Fighters: A call for National Unity, Peace and Socio-Economic Transformation.”
