The Rukungiri District FDC leadership has criticized Security Minister and Rujumbura County MP Gen. Jim Muhwezi for his recent remarks suggesting that FDC is no longer a significant force in the district.
Gen. Muhwezi recently visited the sub-counties of Nyakagyeme, Buhunga, Ruhinda, and Rwerere Town Council, where he welcomed defectors from FDC into the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). During his visit to Nyakagyeme, Gen. Muhwezi questioned why these defectors had stayed with FDC despite the departure of the party’s icon, retired Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye. He also commented that opposition parties lack clear ideologies.
In response, Aloysius Mugarura, the Rukungiri District FDC Chairperson, dismissed these events as staged political maneuvers orchestrated by Gen. Muhwezi and President Museveni. He claimed that these moves are familiar tactics that do not impact FDC. Mugarura emphasized that it was NRM supporters who had switched to NRM, not genuine FDC supporters, which he says reflects poorly on NRM.

Mugarura also assured that the FDC party in the district remains strong, and the upcoming delegated conference scheduled for August 2, 2024, will provide clear guidelines to continue steering the party in a positive direction.

Innocent Rubarondesa, the Rukungiri District FDC leader in charge of mobilization and publicity, criticized Gen. Muhwezi for using misleading statements to distract the public from the real issues. Rubarondesa accused the current government of fostering poverty and desperation among citizens, leaving them unable to thrive independently.
