The late Mr. Richard Arinaitwe was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Gwenkurijo, Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District. The service saw a heartfelt call for mourners to deepen their faith and relationships with God, keeping eternity in mind.
Mr. Arinaitwe, aged 60, succumbed to laryngeal cancer after a long battle, receiving treatment in Turkey. He is survived by his widow, Angelina Kenjaiga Arinaitwe, and three children—two sons and a daughter.
The funeral mass, presided over by Fr. Musinyoro John Vianny Sunday, the Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, encouraged attendees to remain steadfast in their faith amid social, economic, and moral challenges. Fr. Musinyoro celebrated Mr. Arinaitwe’s life, describing him as a family man, a supporter of the church, and a person known for his love and dedication. He urged family members to honor and protect the family’s reputation, highlighting that Richard’s honorable legacy reflected his life of integrity and faithfulness.
Dr. Brian Arinaitwe, the eldest son, expressed gratitude for his father’s guidance and care, noting that Mr. Arinaitwe’s unwavering commitment to family and friends had a lasting impact on all around him. He acknowledged the support of friends, family, and well-wishers throughout his father’s illness, praising his father’s dedication to education and career advancement for his children.
Hon. Danis Namara Bindeeba, the East African Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament, represented the government at the ceremony. He praised Mr. Arinaitwe’s principles, which he noted had helped his children grow into responsible, God-fearing adults. Hon. Namara described Mr. Arinaitwe as a dedicated supporter of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and a respected figure in Uganda and Rukungiri, known for his advocacy of education and community development.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Naboth Namanya, Rubabo Constituency MP, and members of the State House Health Monitoring Unit, among other notable guests.
