Rev. Fred Tumusiime and Rev. Steven Kanyonyi, both retired clergy from Kitazigurukwa Church of Uganda, have praised Rwanyanja Church of Uganda in Bugangari Archdeaconry for launching a coffee project aimed at enhancing its income.
The commendation was made on Sunday during their address to the congregation at Rwanyanja Church of Uganda, as part of the ceremony recognizing the best performers of the Christmas festival.
The two retired reverends commended Rwanyanja Church for being a shining example to other churches, embracing Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe’s call to utilize idle church land for coffee cultivation to supplement church income.
Boaz Kwesiga Rutera, the head of laity for Bugangari Archdeaconry, expressed their goal of making Rwanyanja Church of Uganda a model in coffee cultivation, hoping that other churches would learn from their demonstration gardens.
Rutera disclosed that they have already planted over 1500 coffee seeds on their church land and have plans to plant more, with the expectation of launching the project when the Bishop of North Kigezi visits their parish later in the year.
He emphasized their focus on relieving Christians, highlighting that the church’s coffee gardens would significantly contribute to the church’s income, shifting the emphasis from solely relying on offerings.
Rev. Richard Kwehangana, the parish priest of Rwanyanja Church of Uganda, outlined their ambitious plan to plant over ten thousand coffee trees on a substantial part of their land, spanning almost 70 acres, as a productive use of their church land.
He expressed gratitude to the Rwanyanja congregation for their hard work in meeting their diocesan quotas, and the best Christmas performers were rewarded with gifts, serving as a motivation for continued generosity towards God.
