The drama unfolded in Mitooma District Council today as police removed Deputy Speaker Mucunguzi Greenford Kapota from the council session on the orders of District Speaker Moses Tumwekwatse.
The incident took place at the Mitooma Town Council hall during a council session. Mucunguzi Greenford Kapota, who had been suspended from the council in December for undressing and throwing his speakership attire before the council, arrived today without the required attire. Despite his return from a two-month suspension, he was unable to locate the attire and joined the meeting without it.
Speaker Moses Tumwekwatse instructed Kapota to either wear the speakership attire or vacate his deputy speaker’s seat and join the other councilors in the audience. Kapota refused to comply with the order, leading to the intervention of the police, who escorted him out of the meeting. He was later released after the session concluded.
Speaker Tumwekwatse stated that Kapota would only be allowed to resume his seat once he is in possession of the speakership attire, noting that they are unsure of its whereabouts since he discarded it in December.
Benon Karyeija, the Mitooma District Chairman, criticized the Deputy Speaker’s behavior, emphasizing that such conduct is unacceptable. He supported the Speaker’s decision, stating that if the attire is truly lost, Kapota should replace it.
However, Mucunguzi Greenford Kapota claimed, while being removed from the council, that this was a deliberate attempt to hide his attire and keep him out of the meeting.
