The Nurses and Midwives of Rukungiri District and Municipality, united under the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union Rukungiri Branch, are in need of 217,900,000/= (Two hundred seventeen million nine hundred thousand shillings) to facilitate the International Nurses and Midwives Day scheduled for May 9th to 12th, 2024.
This announcement was made on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, by the Regional Coordinator of Nurses and Midwives, Alex Twekwatse Bukiriro, during a preparatory meeting held at Palm Royale Hotel in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
Rukungiri District and Municipality have been chosen to host the International Nurses and Midwives Day at Rukungiri Main Stadium, drawing participants from across the country and around the world. The President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has confirmed his attendance, along with representatives from foreign countries such as the USA, Netherlands, Ethiopia, Burundi, Kenya, among others. Accommodations in lodges, hotels, and various services have already been reserved.
Alex Twekwatse Bukiriro emphasized that the event is non-partisan, and he called on colleagues to collaborate in raising the budgeted funds for the 4,000 invited guests.
Canon Florence Rwabahima, the Chairperson of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Board of Trustees, expressed gratitude for hosting the event in the district, highlighting it as a dream come true. She challenged Nurses and Midwives to view the day as a blessing, shedding light on their rights and integrity.
Christine Kakuru Kyomuhangi, the Assistant District Health Officer, confirmed the full support of the District Health Department and encouraged all health workers to provide strong support.
Canon Florence Katunguka, the former Assistant District Health Officer, urged organizers to prioritize transparency and accountability for a successful event.
Tumukunde Geoffrey, the Chairperson of Nurses and Midwives Union Rukungiri Branch, appealed to the business community for support, emphasizing the mutual benefits they can derive from the event.
