Nabaasa Gordon, the Ntungamo Municipal Education Officer, has challenged parents to be vigilant and safeguard their children during this long holiday.
He said this on Wednesday during the official closing of third term and the graduation of top class pupils at Standard Junior School Ntungamo in Ntungamo Municipality.
He said that during holidays, most parents mind less about their children’s ways, yet there are many temptations along those ways.
He therefore implored parents to be vigilant and ensure that their children are protected from temptations that may hamper their future, stressing the importance of giving them tasks that can keep them busy.
He also urged school authorities to empower early childhood education since it is the foundation of one’s education.
He challenged pupils to be disciplined, noting that discipline is a pillar of one’s wellness, academic performance, and future.
According to Charles Kamwiine, the Head Teacher of Standard Junior School Ntungamo, 40 pupils have successfully completed the nursery level and graduated, qualifying to join the primary level. He noted that they have been equipped with the necessary knowledge to commence primary education.
He said that as a school, they aim to ensure that pupils are disciplined, calling upon parents to obstruct all forms of indiscipline that might let down their children.
He added that the government should start giving some support to private schools, noting that they also teach young Ugandans like government-aided schools.
He revealed that the school is grappling with a challenge of lack of water to run school activities.
