A section of leaders from Rukungiri Municipality and Rukungiri District have expressed concerns over challenges being faced in the area, noting that they are worried about how they will commence their term.
They say the municipality and the district at large are facing challenges that are still hampering development.
Kansiime Boaz Matita, the Rukungiri Municipal Mayor, told our reporter that although Rukungiri is a municipality, it is still facing challenges such as lack of electricity, water scarcity, among others, which he said may give them a hard time.
He said the municipality is facing a challenge of poor roads, as most of the municipal roads are impassable, jeopardizing the movement of people, goods, and services.
He said he is already aware that the municipality is still lacking machinery to work on roads, revealing that authorities have been resorting to hiring machinery, which he said also has its own challenges.
Charles Andrewson Katebire, the LC V Chairperson-elect of Rukungiri District, said the district also has the same challenges as the municipality, revealing that most parts of the district are still grappling with water scarcity, lack of electricity, among others, that need to be addressed.
He said most roads in all parts of the district are in a sorry state, while the district has no machines to work on the roads.
These leaders said they are a bit worried that these challenges might give them a hard time starting their term.
However, they said they are going to work hard towards the rectification of these challenges through teamwork.
Kansiime said he will work hard together with other authorities to try and ensure that the municipality gets machinery to solve the poor road challenges.
