Kabale University organized a one-day workshop to celebrate Universal Acceptance Day, aimed at promoting the responsible use of the Internet. The event, themed “Unlocking Internet Potentials for Promoting Quality Education and Enhancing Business Growth in Uganda,” took place today at Kabale University, with funding from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a global multi-stakeholder organization based in the United States.

Dr. Francis Akena Adyanga, Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Education at Kabale University, mentioned that the workshop aimed to engage 200 in-person attendees and between 200-500 online participants. He emphasized that Universal Acceptance Day is meant to raise awareness about the responsible use of the Internet, which plays a crucial role in modern life.

Anny Bwengye Katabazi, the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, encouraged Kabale University students to utilize the Internet productively beyond social media. She noted the significant role the Internet played in e-learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which enabled students to continue their education and even graduate online.

Prof. Sam Lanfranco from ICANN advised students to consider and use the Internet and technology as part of an interconnected ecosystem.
