The government has approved the conduct of Local Council One (LC I), Local Council Two (LC II), and Women Council elections, which will take place between March and April this year. Voting will be conducted through the traditional lining-up method across more than 70,000 villages nationwide.
While addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre on Tuesday, the Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, confirmed that the Ministry of Finance has allocated 56.9 billion shillings to facilitate the smooth organization of the elections.
Magyezi noted that the Electoral Commission will soon announce the specific polling dates. However, he emphasized that the elections must be held between March 1 and April 30, ahead of the presidential swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May.
Uganda last conducted LC I elections in 2018. Since then, subsequent elections have been postponed several times due to financial constraints.
The decision to proceed with the elections was reached during a Cabinet meeting held yesterday at State House, Entebbe.
