The Bushenyi District community is in mourning following the untimely passing of Emmanuel Karasi, the former District speaker, who succumbed to complications from diabetes and meningitis. Karasi, aged 58, breathed his last at the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in Mbarara city last night.
Karasi held the esteemed position of District speaker from 2011 to 2016 and was widely regarded as a dedicated and hardworking leader committed to the development of Bushenyi District and beyond. His tenure was marked by a steadfast commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, ensuring that public funds were utilized by established guidelines.
Mr. Jafari Basajjabalaba, the Chairman of Bushenyi District, fondly remembered Karasi as a pillar of the community whose efforts extended beyond the boundaries of the district. “We have lost a stalwart who tirelessly worked for the advancement of our people, not only within Bushenyi District but across the entire region,” he remarked, emphasizing Karasi’s advocacy for peace and unity during his time in office.
Douglas Mucunguzi, the current District speaker, pledged to honor Karasi’s legacy by celebrating his achievements and contributions to the district’s progress. Plans are underway to hold a special council session in Karasi’s honor, reflecting the profound impact he had on the community.
Karasi’s widow, Ms. Rose Nambuya, described him as a devoted family man who worked tirelessly for the well-being of his loved ones. She lamented his passing, noting his prolonged battle with diabetes and meningitis.
Reflecting on Karasi’s contributions, Mr. Robert Atuhairwe, the Bushenyi District Resident District Commissioner (RDC), expressed deep regret at the loss of such a distinguished individual. He highlighted efforts to secure specialized treatment for Karasi, which tragically came to naught.
Karasi, a resident of Nyabikyerere ward in Central Division, Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality, served as the councilor LCV for Central Division from 2011 to 2016. Despite an unsuccessful bid for the mayoral seat in 2016, Karasi’s impact on the community remained profound.
His final resting place will be Kirugu village in Ryeru sub-county, Rubirizi District, with funeral proceedings scheduled for Tuesday, as confirmed by family members.
The passing of Emmanuel Karasi leaves a significant void in the Bushenyi community, with leaders and residents alike mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant and advocate for progress.
