he First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, urged administrators of educational institutions to prioritize graduation ceremonies as a way of inspiring learners, motivating teachers, and promoting accountability.

Her remarks were delivered by Dr. Safinah Museene, Commissioner of Health Education and Training in the Ministry of Education and Sports, during the inaugural graduation ceremony at St John College of Health Sciences Rwashamaire, Ntungamo District.

Hon. Museveni emphasized the government’s Vision 2040, which calls for an adequate number of health workers to meet national needs. She assured support for collaboration with the private sector to strengthen resources and ensure quality health services. She further encouraged private institutions to hold graduations that inspire learners and foster accountability while transforming service delivery.

Dr. Safinah Museene highlighted the importance of punctuality among health workers, stressing that timely service is essential because “life doesn’t wait.”

Right Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, Bishop of South Ankole Diocese, called on the public to respect health workers for their dedication and emphasized the importance of customer care in the health sector.

Dr. John Mugisha Rwashana, Director of St John College of Health Sciences Rwashamaire, thanked the government for trusting the private sector in education. He shared that he invested in the health sector after noticing the severe shortage of health workers in 2009, establishing St John College as the first institution of its kind in the country upon returning from working abroad.

Parents and graduands expressed gratitude during the ceremony. Kenneth Karengire, a parent from Nyakagyeme, Rukungiri, thanked God for his child’s academic achievement, anticipating a future as a family health care provider. Joseph Namanya, one of the graduands, expressed excitement at completing his studies and fulfilling his dream of healing the sick.

The event marked a milestone for St John College of Health Sciences Rwashamaire, setting a precedent for future graduations that inspire health professionals and strengthen service delivery in Uganda.
