Reverend Father Henry Barekye, Assistant Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish, has called on Christians to draw inspiration from the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary in order to strengthen their faith and foster peace in society.

Preaching during Mass to mark the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Christ the King Church in Rukungiri Municipality, Fr. Barekye described Christian mothers as the “makers of society,” urging them to embrace Mary’s silent, obedient, patient, and resilient nature as a guide for building better families.

“Women are the gateway to a successful family and should rise above this expectation in today’s global village,” he said, adding that Mary spoke sparingly, yet with purpose, a trait that could help eliminate misunderstandings in homes if adopted by women.

He noted that many marital challenges could be resolved if women embraced Mary’s ideals and took the Word of God seriously, creating “smiling faces in their marital homes.”

Fr. Barekye also appealed for unity among Christians, encouraging them to forgive one another, just as Mary forgave those who crucified her only son. He emphasized the need for humility and love, saying, “Mary loved sinners and gave the world its Saviour. We should not be proud, but rather obedient as she was.”

The celebration drew hundreds of faithful who gathered to honor the Mother of God and reflect on her example as a model of faith and virtue.
