Bishop Dr. Hamlet Kabushenga has been inaugurated as the new Bishop of the General Conference of the Free Methodist Church in Uganda.

His enthronement was officiated by Samuel Kainamura, the President of the Free Methodist Church in Uganda, who delivered a sermon centered on the Book of Discipline and the Bishop’s Constitution, highlighting them as essential guiding principles to ensure sound leadership and prevent church mismanagement.

The Free Methodist Church in Uganda has now fully established a General Conference, headed by a single Bishop and supported by 30 reverends, overseeing 30 parishes across the country. In Kanungu District, affiliated churches include Christ the Redeemer, Christ the Savior (Kajugangoma), Tree of Life (Kihanda), Christ the Servant (Kambuga), Mt. Zion (Mabaare), Mount Vernon (Nyakatunguru), River of Life (Nyamirana), Fruit of Faith (Kakoni Kambuga), Living Stream (Nyakabungo), and All Nations Church (Beindi).

The event was also attended by Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance. Dr. Baryomunsi commended the Free Methodist Church for fostering unity among Ugandans and stressed that every Ugandan has the right to freedom of worship. He reaffirmed that the government ensures this freedom for all religious groups, provided they respect human rights and adhere to the Constitution of Uganda.

Dr. Baryomunsi also criticized certain religious leaders who promote division by disparaging other denominations, stating that such actions contradict the teachings of God and Jesus Christ. He reminded attendees that judgment is the sole prerogative of God and called on people to avoid being judgmental.

In his remarks, Dr. Baryomunsi revealed that the Ugandan government had allocated 1 billion UGX to the Kanungu District Local Government, in addition to earlier funds meant for road repairs. However, the district leadership, led by the LC5 chairperson, has failed to carry out the road construction without providing any valid reasons. Consequently, Dr. Baryomunsi has taken it upon himself to use his personal funds to repair some of the most deteriorated roads.

Rev. Absolom Ndyanabo, the Dean of Christ the Redeemer Cathedral in Kanungu District, acted as the master of ceremonies for the event and thanked the dignitaries present, including the Mayor of Kanungu District, government officials, political and religious leaders, traders, and other attendees, for gracing the occasion.
