Police in Kabale is holding 78-year-old Edward Katarikawe a resident of Kagona village Kavu parish Maziba sub county Kabale district, for allegedly defiling his 13-year-old granddaughter.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman says the incident took place over the weekend when the girl who had been sent by the mother to the neighborhood to get beans met the grandfather along the way who forcefully dragged her into a banana plantation and defiled her.
It was during the process, that the defiler was caught red-handed by a neighbor but he managed to take off.
A report was made at Maziba police post and the suspect was immediately arrested and charged accordingly.
Maate says inquiries ongoing and upon completion he will be produced before courts of law.
