Residents of Buyanja Subcounty in Rukungiri District were left in shock on Tuesday morning after the discovery of a decomposed body of an unidentified man along the Birara River in Rurengye Village, Nyakabungo Parish.

Eyewitnesses told Boona Radio that the body appeared to have been in the water for about a week, as it was already in an advanced state of decomposition when it was found.

The Buyanja Subcounty Gomborora Internal Security Officer (GISO), Mr Isaac Bitwire, confirmed the incident, noting that the body was discovered earlier in the morning but has not yet been identified by any relatives or members of the community.

Mr Bitwire further explained that, due to the condition of the body and the fact that the subcounty mortuary is not yet renovated to accommodate such cases, authorities decided to bury the remains at the same spot along the Birara River bank in Rurengye Cell.

Investigations into the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in identifying the man.
