People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) candidate Ingrid Turinawe Kamateneti has filed a petition challenging the declaration of results in the Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary race, in which retired Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu, contesting on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, was announced the winner.

According to the official results, Tumukunde secured 7,115 votes against Turinawe’s 6,268. However, Turinawe has taken the matter to Rukungiri High Court through her lawyers from Ssingo Advocates, alleging irregularities in the electoral process and questioning the credibility of the declared outcome.

Speaking after filing the petition, Turinawe expressed confidence in her case, saying she believes there is sufficient evidence to overturn the results. She also urged the people of Rukungiri Municipality to remain hopeful as the legal process unfolds, expressing optimism that justice will prevail.

Her legal team, led by Isaac Kwagala of Ssingo Advocates, echoed this confidence, stating that they are prepared to present a strong case and demonstrate the role of the courts in delivering justice to Ugandans.

Meanwhile, Rukungiri District Returning Officer Abasi Namara said he had not been formally informed of the petition at the time of the filing but confirmed that the electoral body is prepared to defend its position in court.

Supporters of the People’s Front for Freedom, who witnessed the filing, expressed optimism about the case, saying they remain hopeful for a favorable ruling and what they consider the rightful outcome for the people of Rukungiri Municipality.
