Police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 25-year-old man, identified only as Fakasi, a Rwandan national and casual labourer, who was allegedly strangled to death.
According to police reports, the incident is believed to have occurred between midnight and the early morning hours of March 29, 2026. Fakasi’s lifeless body was discovered outside a residence in Kitaburaza Cell, Muhanga Town Council.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased had been residing in Muhanga alongside fellow villagers from Manyagiro Village in Kicumbi District, Rwanda. Two months ago, he reportedly travelled to Kampala in search of work before returning to the area.
On the morning of the incident, one of his colleagues reportedly stepped outside and found Fakasi lying motionless in front of the house. He immediately alerted other workers at the nearby garden belonging to the late Aponye, prompting them to inform the area chairperson, Kagurusi Benard, who in turn notified police.
A team led by the District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer visited and examined the scene, documenting key evidence. The body was later transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police say inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the suspected killing are ongoing.
The statement was issued by ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson.
