Residents in Ishasha Cell, Nyanga Sub-county, have raised concerns over rising theft cases in their area. According to the residents, the situation has created fear and insecurity, with many households experiencing sleepless nights as thieves target their property and livestock.
Speaking to our reporter, Sunday Umaru, a resident in the same village, echoed that theft has increased, with many people losing property including household materials, motorcycles, and livestock. He attributed the increase in theft to a lack of security in the area, stressing that thieves are taking advantage of this to break into people’s homes.
Additionally, another resident identified as Nuwakiza Hosea informed our reporter that thieves break into homes at night and steal property and livestock, particularly goats, which they load onto vehicles.
In response, Mujuni Benon, the LC1 chairperson of Ishasha Cell, confirmed the situation, noting that he has received many cases of theft in his office. He stated that higher authorities, including the police and LC3 of Nyanga Sub-county, have already been informed, and investigations are ongoing.
However, he encouraged residents to work together and conduct patrols to help restore security and identify criminals.
Residents suspect that thieves may be coming from neighboring parts of Congo and therefore demand that authorities conduct a thorough investigation.
