On Thursday, the Rukungiri Municipality timber traders and carpenters Sacco received a generous donation of 50 million Ugandan Shillings from President Museveni via the State House, aimed at bolstering their Sacco’s operations.

Edmund Bashasha, an official from the State House, announced the donation during a gathering at Rukungiri Inn, stating that it was a pledge fulfilled by President Museveni in recognition of the responsible utilization of a previous donation awarded to the Sacco back in 2018.

Bashasha emphasized that the funds were intended as seed capital to enhance the Sacco’s activities, urging members to utilize it for the collective benefit rather than individual gain. He urged against spreading unfounded rumors regarding the allocation of funds, stressing the importance of unity and trust among Sacco members for sustained development.

Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, the Rukungiri Deputy Resident District Commissioner, commended the Sacco for receiving support from President Museveni and urged members to show appreciation by aligning their efforts with the government.

Ustina Benanwire, the Sacco’s chairperson, recounted the journey of the association since its inception in 2018, highlighting both progress and challenges. She acknowledged the previous support from President Museveni, including the provision of carpentry machinery, which significantly boosted production capacity.

Despite the progress made, Benanwire noted persistent challenges such as high rental costs and frequent electricity outages affecting their operations.

Sezi Turinawe, the coordinator of the Rukungiri Municipality carpenters and timber traders Sacco, welcomed the financial support while cautioning members against spreading baseless rumors. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in enhancing their businesses and reiterated the need to support the government for its timely fulfillment of pledges.
