Police in Kabale District have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer who was found dead in his house.

The deceased has been identified as Sgt. Tumwesigye Robert (RA/185408), who was attached to the 2nd Division and deployed at the Mukokye border in Maziba Sub-county as an intelligence officer.

According to police, his lifeless body was discovered on his bed at his residence in Mukokye during the morning hours. The incident was reported to Maziba Police Station by the area chairperson, Christopher Nkaneziyo.

A team of officers from Kabale Police visited and documented the scene before transferring the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Preliminary information indicates that Sgt. Tumwesigye had been missing for about five days prior to the discovery of his body. He is reported to have been living alone at the residence.

Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident.
