Police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 17-year-old student, Edward Mugarura of Kihanga Secondary School, whose body was discovered on 17th December 2025 lying along a road in Nyakatugunda Village, Nyarurambi Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county.

Preliminary findings indicate that on the night of 16th December 2025 at around 10:00 pm, the deceased had been at a bar owned by Gerald Ampumuza in Sindi Ward, Mparo Town Council, where he was reportedly drinking alcohol with friends. It is alleged that upon leaving the bar, he was followed by some boys, said to be known to the bar attendant, who were riding a motorcycle and smoking cigarettes.

The body was discovered at about 9:00 am the following morning, prompting the Officer in Charge of Mparo to notify Rukiga Central Police Station. Police officers responded promptly, visited the scene, and carried out thorough documentation and processing.

A preliminary examination of the body revealed bruises on the back and a swollen head, indicating signs of physical assault. A police canine unit from Kabale was later deployed to the well-preserved scene and successfully tracked a scent for approximately two kilometres, leading investigators back to the bar of Ampumuza Gerald.

As a result, seven suspects, including the bar owner and bar attendants, have been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations. The body of the deceased has since been retrieved and conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Police inquiries into the matter are still ongoing.
