Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the apparent suicide of a 46-year-old woman named Kyomuhangi Dinah.
The deceased, a peasant residing in Rwekitooma village, Nyarugoote Parish, Nyabubare sub-county, Bushenyi District, was found hanging from a guava tree on 28/01/2024, at approximately 2:00 PM.
According to the area chairperson, Noah Mukundane, the deceased had earlier contacted her son, Richard Kamusime, instructing him to come and see her; otherwise, he would not see her again. It is reported that Kyomuhangi Dinah had been grappling with mental illness since her childhood.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the incident, stating that the body showed no external injuries except for the rope mark around the neck.
The authorities retrieved the deceased’s body from the tree, and it has been transported to Kampala International Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for a postmortem examination.
