Ishaka Bushenyi Municipality police on Monday, February 17, 2025, dispersed a protest organized by members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) transitioning to the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF). The demonstrators were calling for the release of Dr. Kiiza Besigye, advocating for his right to international medical care.

The protest, which drew an unusually large number of supporters, began along Kabirisi Road, passed through Ishaka Bushenyi town center, and was eventually dispersed along Kizinda Road after police fired warning shots into the air.

Mr. Guma Gumisiriza, the Ishaka Bushenyi FDC/PFF chairperson, reaffirmed their demand for Dr. Besigye’s freedom, stating that “enough is enough.” He emphasized that Dr. Besigye, as a prominent political figure, is entitled to international medical treatment rather than being restricted to local facilities such as Bugolobi Clinic. He also cited a Supreme Court ruling that nullified Besigye’s detention.
