Police in Rukiga District have arrested a man accused of killing his 70-year-old sister in a suspected domestic dispute.

According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the suspect, identified as Geoffrey Wilson Kareba, is currently in custody over the death of Alice Joventa Mutwigi.

The incident reportedly occurred on the morning of March 31, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. in Kariba Village, Karorwa Parish, Bukinda Sub-county. It is alleged that Kareba went to his sister’s home and accused her of practicing witchcraft against his family. In response, the deceased reportedly told him that he would “see more,” which is said to have provoked the suspect.

Police say Kareba, who was armed with a panga, allegedly attacked his sister and cut her on the head three times, killing her instantly.

After realizing what he had done, the suspect reportedly surrendered himself to the Bukinda Sub-county Chief, handing over the weapon used in the attack. The local official then contacted police, who re-arrested him.

Authorities visited and documented the crime scene. The suspect is currently detained at Rukiga Central Police Station, while the body of the deceased was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
