Residents of Kyabooro Cell in Southern Ward, Kanungu Town Council, have raised concerns over the persistent lack of access to clean water in their area, a situation they say has affected their daily lives and health.

According to residents, accessing safe water remains a major challenge, forcing many households to rely on unsafe sources such as dams. They say this has increased the risk of waterborne diseases, including cholera and typhoid, especially among children.

Local leaders have also expressed frustration over what they describe as unfulfilled promises by responsible authorities. The LC1 chairperson of Kyabooro Cell noted that, despite the issue being longstanding, little progress has been made to connect the area to the national water supply system. He added that while other parts of the district have benefited from improved water access, Kyabooro residents continue to struggle.

Residents further revealed that, although there are several water sources in the area, they are not safe for human consumption. In many cases, people are forced to share these sources with animals, raising serious concerns about hygiene and public health. They are now calling on the government to intervene urgently and provide a lasting solution.

In response, the Mayor of Kanungu Town Council acknowledged the problem but clarified that the extension of clean water services falls under the jurisdiction of the district authorities in partnership with National Water and Sewerage Corporation, not the town council.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the district LC5 chairperson were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off and his office closed by the time of filing this report.
