Kinyasano Boarding Primary School in Rukungiri Municipality on Thursday held its end-of-first-term Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting, with a strong appeal to parents to prioritize child safety, discipline, and close supervision during the upcoming holidays.
The meeting, conducted at the school premises, attracted a large number of parents. The Headteacher, Mr. Benard Tumushangye, appreciated the turnout and commended parents for their continued support toward the school’s development, particularly their contribution toward the completion of a storied building under construction.
He noted that increasing enrollment has created pressure on the available learning space, but expressed optimism that once the building is completed, it will significantly improve the learning environment and accommodate more learners comfortably.
During the meeting, Mr. Tumushangye also introduced a new visiting card system aimed at strengthening security within the school. He explained that the system will require parents to present visiting cards when visiting their children, making it easier to identify authorized visitors amid growing concerns about security in schools.
The headteacher further cautioned parents against feeding children on highly processed foods, warning that poor nutrition has contributed to rising health challenges among learners. He encouraged parents to take a more active role in supervising their children during holidays instead of leaving them under the care of house helps or unsupervised.
The PTA chairperson, Mr. Wilber Mubangizi, applauded the school administration for organizing the meeting, saying it enhances communication and helps parents better understand school operations and the welfare of their children.
He also commended parents for the resolutions reached, noting that they will contribute to the school’s development and ultimately improve academic performance.
Mr. Mubangizi urged parents to engage their children in light household chores or casual work during holidays to keep them occupied and away from negative influences. He added that such exposure can help children develop practical life skills, including basic business awareness.
He further emphasized the importance of parental guidance through mentoring, monitoring children’s online activity, providing balanced meals, limiting unsupervised movement, and spending quality time together to strengthen family relationships.
