The territorial police in Kanungu are searching for a 28-year-old Amosi Nuwagaba, who is alleged to have assaulted his biological father, Emmanuel Bareba, aged 73, resulting in his immediate death.
The incident occurred on July 4, 2024, at 14:00hrs at Kyeshero Central Cell/Parish, Kyeshero Sub County, Kanungu District.
It is reported that on the aforementioned date and time, at their residence, Emmanuel Bareba accused his son Amosi of stealing coffee from their home and selling it. This accusation reportedly angered Amosi, who proceeded to physically attack his father by punching and kicking him in the stomach and ribs, and later using a stick.
Following the assault, Emmanuel sustained injuries to his face, back, and stomach. He then reported the incident to the local area chairman, Lc1 Munyantware Andrew of Kyeshero Central Cell, who arranged for him to be admitted to Bwindi Community Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Emmanuel passed away on July 8, 2024, at approximately 14:00hrs due to his injuries.
An assault report was filed at Kyeshero Police Post, where the crime scene was visited, and documented, and statements were recorded. A postmortem examination was also conducted.
The suspect, reportedly a habitual drug abuser known for assaulting his father, fled to the DRC-Congo upon learning of his father’s death.
