Police in Kabale District have launched a search for an unidentified driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian.
The incident occurred on March 30, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m. at Nyakigugwe along the Kabale–Mbarara highway.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Gumisiriza Silver, a resident of Muyumbo Village in Kyanamira Sub-county, Kabale District. According to preliminary reports, Gumisiriza was knocked down by a speeding vehicle traveling from the Kabale side while attempting to cross the road. He died instantly at the scene.
Police responded promptly after being notified, documented the scene, and transported the body to Kabale Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Authorities have since commenced investigations and are actively tracing the vehicle involved, which fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Police are appealing to members of the public with any information that could aid in identifying the driver or the vehicle to come forward and assist in the investigation so that justice can be served.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and urged cooperation from the public.
