Tragedy struck in Kabale as a fatal accident claimed the lives of two young siblings in Katuna Town Council.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of January 14, 2024, at approximately 06:00 PM in Kabalisa cell, involved a Toyota Premio with registration number UAZ 881P and pedestrians.
The victims, identified as 13-year-old Brilliant Tashobya and 8-year-old Ainembabazi Winner, were both children of Tukasingura Edmond, a resident of Kabalisa cell in Katuna Town Council. The driver of the vehicle, Aliganyira Moses, reportedly hit the two juveniles while driving from Kabale town towards the Katuna border.
The preliminary investigation points to careless driving, suspected to be a result of over-speeding, as the primary cause of the tragic incident. After colliding with the pedestrians, Moses allegedly fled the scene but later turned himself in at Katuna Police station.
Following the accident, the scene was promptly visited, and a sketch plan was drawn. The lifeless bodies of the victims were transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, where they await postmortem examinations. Meanwhile, Moses, the driver, has been detained as investigations into the matter continue.
The involved vehicle, a Toyota Premio with registration UAZ 881P, was towed and is currently parked at Kabale police station yard, awaiting inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (I.O.V).
The community is left in shock as they grapple with the aftermath of this tragic incident, emphasizing the need for road safety and responsible driving.
