Police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 47-year-old man, Lawrence Niwabine, a resident of Kichwamba Cell in Rugyeyo Parish.
According to ASP Maate Elly,PRO Kigezi , the incident occurred on March 30, 2026, at around 7:45 a.m. at Rugyeyo Tea Factory in Mishunga Cell, Kashojwa Parish, Rugyeyo Sub-county. Niwabine, who was employed as a cleaner at the factory, was reportedly cleaning the outside roof when he accidentally stepped on an iron sheet. The sheet gave way, causing him to fall inside the factory, where he hit his head on metal objects.
He sustained a severe head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police visited the scene, documented the incident, and conveyed the body to Rugyeyo Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination before handing it over to relatives for burial.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of providing workers with appropriate safety gear to prevent such accidents. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
