Commissioner Winston Katushabe from the Ministry of Works and Transport’s regulation and safety division urged Bushenyi leaders to cease their conflicts and focus on unifying taxi and bus operators.
During a meeting with leaders and stakeholders in Bushenyi District, Katushabe expressed that both the ministry and the residents are weary of the ongoing disputes between these operators.
He emphasized that various platforms have been utilized to resolve the issues between taxi and bus operators. Katushabe also mentioned the importance of implementing basic standards such as park security, adequate lighting, and passenger waiting sheds before allowing operators to use the park.
Seleverio Mukobi Byarufu, the Bushenyi Ishaka municipality town clerk, explained that the decision to reopen the park stemmed from a conflict between taxi and bus operators, leading to a resolution after eight years.
Richard Byaruhanga, the Mayor of Bushenyi Ishaka municipality, added that the park, which began operations in 2008, has faced intermittent closures due to a lack of commitment from operators and leaders.
