Christians at Rwanyanyanja Church of Uganda have raised UGX 38 million during a fundraising event held alongside a Holy Confirmation ceremony aimed at supporting the construction of a new church building.

The event, held under the Bugangari Archdeaconry in the North Kigezi Diocese, was attended by the Diocesan Bishop, Onesmus Asiimwe, who confirmed over 45 Christians into the faith. The ceremony also included the confirmation of believers and the fundraising drive led by the Head of Laity, Mr. Kwesiga Boaz Ruteera, to support church construction.

Bishop Asiimwe commended the Christians for their generosity, unity, and commitment to serving God, noting that such efforts reflect humanity and a willingness to overcome life challenges through faith. He encouraged Christians to remain courageous and hopeful, especially those facing poverty, urging them to trust in God while also working hard to improve their livelihoods. He specifically mentioned coffee growing as one of the ways believers can uplift themselves economically.

However, the Bishop expressed concern that some Christians treat Holy Confirmation as a ritual rather than a genuine commitment to accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. He urged both young and old Christians to sincerely repent and commit their lives to Christ before participating in Holy Communion and other sacred church activities.

He also condemned the practice of some parents and guardians who organize parties involving alcohol to celebrate spiritual milestones such as baptism, confirmation, and holy matrimony, calling for more meaningful and respectful celebrations.

The Bishop further announced that the North Kigezi Diocese had contributed UGX 1 million toward the church construction project, encouraging the congregation to continue working hard with the goal of elevating the church to an archdeaconry in the future.

Mr. Kwesiga Boaz Ruteera, the Head of Laity for Bugangari Archdeaconry, expressed gratitude to the Bishop and fellow Christians for their generosity and unity. He reported that the fundraising efforts collected UGX 31 million in cash, along with 200 bags of cement, bringing the total value to UGX 38 million. He pledged continued support to ensure the church construction is completed before Christmas 2026.

Ruteera also emphasized his commitment to serving the church and the community, stating that supporting church projects and the needy is a way of giving back to God.

The parish priest of Rwanyanyanja Church, Rev. Richard Kwehangana, confirmed that more than 45 Christians were received into Holy Communion during the service, and five individuals were baptized after converting from Catholicism to the Protestant faith. He expressed gratitude to the Bishop, church leaders, and the congregation for their support, and pledged continued dedication to serving God.

The congregation and church leaders expressed joy and excitement following the successful fundraising, praising the leadership of Mr. Ruteera and committing to continue supporting church development projects and other community initiatives.
