Former Uganda Coffee Development Authority official, Alex Bob Rugonde, has encouraged boda boda riders to explore additional sources of income to prepare for life after their boda boda careers. Rugonde made these remarks yesterday at the Kebisoni Town Council playground while distributing 2000 coffee seedlings to boda boda riders from four different stages in the town council.
The stages that benefited from this initiative include the Kebisoni Boda Boda Association stage, Kihogo stage, Kebisoni Bamwe Boda Boda stage, and United Boda Boda stage. Rugonde emphasized that many boda boda riders struggle financially after retiring from their work due to a lack of alternative income sources.
He urged the beneficiaries to embrace coffee cultivation, highlighting the longevity of coffee plants and their potential to support them in old age. James Kasana Muhanguzi, a boda boda rider, expressed optimism that the coffee seedlings received would provide support during their later years. He thanked Rugonde for the assistance, stating that it provides a means to alleviate poverty within their families.
Richard Karani Biryomumaisho, the area councilor representing Northern B Ward in Kebisoni Town Council, commended Rugonde for providing boda boda riders with a means to combat poverty and urged the beneficiaries to responsibly care for the coffee seedlings in anticipation of future benefits.
