Territorial police in Kanungu have arrested Yonasi Kwitegeka, also known as Swankuru, a resident of Rwenyerere Cell, Biwomborwa Parish, Kihihi Town Council, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of two girls aged 7 and 9 years.
According to ASP Maate Elly, PRO Kigezi regione, the incident occurred in early May 2026 at Rwenyerere Cell. The young victims were sent to the suspect’s nearby home to collect passion fruits. Instead, the 64-year-old allegedly lured them with promises of money and repeatedly defiled them on different occasions. He reportedly warned the girls not to tell their mother.
The matter came to light when the girls’ health condition deteriorated, prompting them to confide in their mother. She immediately reported the case at Kihihi Police Station, leading to the swift arrest of the suspect.
Police have described the incident as unfortunate, noting that a person of advanced age who should be protecting children was instead allegedly preying on them.
Inquiries are ongoing, and the suspect will be produced in court to face the relevant charges once investigations are completed.
