Police in Rukungiri District are investigating a fatal road crash that claimed the life of a three-year-old girl on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Asinguza Josephine, daughter of Brenda Ekyarikunda of Kashenyi village, Bugangari parish, was knocked at around 4:00 pm on September 23, 2025, at Kashenyi Trading Centre along the Kihihi road.

According to police, the incident involved a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle Reg. No. UMA 544CM, red in color, ridden by Muruhura Mark, 26, a boda boda rider from Kyato cell in Ruhinda sub-county.

“It is alleged that the rider, who was heading from Rukungiri town towards Bikurungu, knocked the child as she attempted to cross the road. She died a few metres away while being rushed to hospital,” said ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson.

The scene was documented, the suspect arrested, and the motorcycle impounded pending inspection. A postmortem has been conducted. Police attribute the cause of the accident to over-speeding by the rider.

Investigations are still ongoing.
