The territorial police in Kanungu are currently investigating a series of alleged murders.

The first victim, Arinaitwe Simple, a 45-year-old resident of Ibumbwe village, Kishuro parish, Katete sub-county, was last seen at Kojo’s bar on April 23, 2024, around 10:30 AM, in the company of Godfrey Kamugisha, a teacher, as well as Innocent Tayebwa and Dickson Tayebwa. However, the following day, on April 24, 2024, around 6:00 AM, Arinaitwe Simple was discovered dead along Mutojo Ibumbwe road. He was known to have dealings in cattle and money lending, suggesting he may have possessed money at the time of his death.

Following news of Arinaitwe’s demise, an enraged mob suspected those who were last seen with him. They took action against Godfrey Kamugisha, who resided in the same area. During interrogation, Kamugisha implicated others before being lynched by the mob. When police arrived at the scene after being alerted, they found Kamugisha already deceased. They managed to rescue Innocent Tayebwa, who was in critical condition, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to Kambuga Hospital.

Authorities urge the public to refrain from vigilante justice and instead cooperate with law enforcement agencies to apprehend suspected criminals for proper legal procedures. One suspect has been apprehended to assist in ongoing investigations.
