Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 38-year-old Okello Dismus, who is suspected to have been assaulted to death by unknown individuals.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of 25th September 2025, around 3:00 AM, at Omukayaga Cell, Kyabahanga Parish, Bwambara Sub County. Okello, who had been employed as a casual laborer for over two years by Mrs. Rwemereza Annet, was reportedly on guard duty at her residence in Kyehunde Cell on the evening of 24th September.
Mrs. Rwemereza reportedly discovered Okello missing when she woke up the following morning at around 8:00 AM. Information later reached her that he had been found dead along the way at Omukayaga Cell, near Omukayaga Trading Center, allegedly after being assaulted by unidentified persons.
Bazirake Godfrey, the area chairman, was notified of the incident and subsequently reported the matter to Bwambara Police Station. A police team, including K9 units, visited the scene, though no significant evidence was recovered. Witness statements have been recorded, and the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
ASP Maate Elly, Police PRO for Kigezi, has appealed to anyone with information that could help identify the suspects to come forward and assist the police in their investigations.
The case remains under active investigation.
