Rukiga Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited has officially opened a new branch in Rubanda Town Council, Rubanda District, marking its 9th branch and bringing financial services closer to the community.
At the opening ceremony, Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, the founder of Rukiga SACCO and retired parish priest of Kitanga Parish, shared that his motivation for starting the SACCO stemmed from observing cases of domestic violence linked to family financial mismanagement. He emphasized that transparency in financial matters leads to better budgeting, improved savings habits, and more informed decision-making, all contributing to family stability and development.
Rev. Ivan Muhoozi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rukiga SACCO and Head Teacher of Rwamucucu Seed Secondary School, reiterated that mutual awareness of each other’s financial situations helps couples work together towards common goals such as saving for a home, planning for children’s education, or preparing for retirement. He added that the new branch in Rubanda was opened in response to numerous requests from clients who previously had to travel long distances to the Kabale branch.
Norman Tushabe, LC3 Chairperson of Rubanda Town Council, noted that many residents of Rubanda Town Council operate small to medium-sized businesses. The new branch will facilitate access to loans and provide a secure place for saving, which will benefit local enterprises.
Medius Kabajurizi, General Manager of Rukiga SACCO, highlighted that the opening of the Rubanda branch represents significant growth for the SACCO. She encouraged people to open accounts and take advantage of the available loans to enhance their entrepreneurial activities.
The event concluded with a friendly football match between the Rukiga SACCO staff and Murole High School Academy staff, held at Kabirizi Playground in Rubanda Town Council. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
