Police in Rukiga District have arrested a 27-year-old radio presenter for allegedly being in possession of a toy pistol under unclear circumstances.
The suspect, identified as Daglas Natukunda, a presenter at Rukiga FM and resident of Nyangorogoro village, Kitojo parish in Rwamucucu Sub County, was arrested on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at around 1:30 pm. He was reportedly found with the toy pistol tucked in his waist.
According to police, the operation was conducted by District Police Commander SP Moses Karakire Musinguzi and his team, following an intelligence tip-off at Kyerero village, Kandago parish, Bukinda Sub County.
The arrest came after community members raised concerns during a recent policing meeting at Nyaikunama football pitch, where several complaints were made about a man frequently moving around the area armed with what appeared to be a pistol.
Police Spokesperson for Kigezi Region, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the arrest and applauded residents for their vigilance and cooperation with security forces.
“We very much commend the community members for such cooperation and ask them to continue being security conscious and vigilant in the prevention and fight against crime,” Maate said.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind Natukunda’s possession of the toy pistol.
