Police in Kisoro district successfully prevented a potential disturbance at St. Paul’s Mutolere Secondary School, reportedly instigated by students reacting to the expulsion of their peers.

Hajji Badru Ssebyala, the Resident Commissioner of Kisoro District, stated that he received reliable information from Kisoro District Police Commander, SSP Banerd Mugerwa, concerning the events that transpired at Mutolere Secondary School on Tuesday night. The school administration promptly notified the authorities upon discovering the students’ intentions.

The disturbance was allegedly planned in response to the school’s decision to expel two students found smoking marijuana, which was perceived as a disciplinary action. It’s claimed that these suspended students remained on campus, influencing their fellow students to protest against their dismissals.

RDC Ssebyala revealed that the police took swift action, utilizing tactics such as firing warning shots and dispersing tear gas to prevent the planned disturbance. He strongly cautioned against such acts of defiance and urged parents to collaborate closely with educators to guide their children’s behavior.

However, the head teacher of the school, Charles Mbonyebyombi, adamantly denied any turmoil within the school premises.
