The territorial police in Kanungu are currently searching for a suspect who allegedly stole a three-month-old baby boy from his mother, Sumayah Naziwa, the wife of Khalid Akampurira, an Imam at Kanyantorogo Mosque in Kanyantorogo Sub-County, Kanungu District.
The incident occurred on August 10, 2024, around 12:00 p.m. at the Kihihi Polytechnic playground during a business trade show in Mezimera Village, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District.
According to reports, while Sumayah Naziwa was selling chapati at the trade show with her baby, a young woman approached her, pretending to be a customer. The woman asked to hold the baby so that Sumayah could attend to her business. Trusting the stranger, Sumayah handed over the baby. However, as Sumayah became engrossed in her work, the woman disappeared with the child.
A search of the area proved unsuccessful due to the large crowd, and the incident was promptly reported to the police. Authorities have launched an investigation to locate and recover the baby and to apprehend the suspect.
