Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating an incident where property valued at millions of shillings was destroyed by a mob. The event occurred on April 26th, 2024, around 5:00 PM at Butare Trading Centre in Kyamuhunga Town Council, Bushenyi District.

Reportedly, a group of local residents, primarily Boda Boda riders, assaulted Leonard Mpiirwe, a 31-year-old mobile money dealer residing in Omukabingo Cell, Butare Ward, Kyamuhunga Town Council. Police intervened to rescue him from the attack.

According to Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, following the assault on Mpiirwe, the mob then targeted Vincent Musinguzi, a 28-year-old businessman residing in Butare B Cell, Butare Ward, Kyamuhunga Town Council. The motivation behind this action was purportedly in response to the recent murder and aggravated robbery of Wilson Asiimwe.

Tumusiime stated that the mob accused both Mpiirwe and Musinguzi of failing to assist in searching for the deceased, not visiting the crime scene, and not attending the burial, despite being close friends of Asiimwe.

Fred Mugabe, the Officer in Charge of Butare Police Station, reported that property, including a house, a motorcycle with registration number UAV 212 C, and a bar, were destroyed, with some items stolen during the incident.
