The police in Mitooma District have apprehended a 48-year-old man on suspicion of murder through cutting.

The incident occurred on April 20th, 2024, at approximately 1:00 PM in Iraramira II village, Iraramira Parish, Kiyanga sub-county, Mitooma District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the event and identified the suspect as Dinah Gabikwenda, aged 55, a resident of the aforementioned address.

Tumusiime also identified the deceased as Charles Byaruhanga, aged 48, a builder who also resided at the same address.

It is alleged that on April 15th, 2024, the suspect requested the area’s LC1 chairperson, Gorrete Tumuhirwe, to inform the deceased to cease damaging her property, warning of consequences if the behavior persisted.

According to Immaculate Kyasimire, aged 38, a local peasant, on April 20th, 2024, the deceased was assaulted and severely injured. She was then rushed to Kampala International Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Kyasimire reported the incident at Iraramira Police Post.

As of today, April 25th, 2024, at 11:00 AM, the victim was pronounced dead at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where she had been transferred.
