Police in Kisoro District are investigating a suspected murder after the body of a 19-year-old girl was discovered with stab wounds along a village road.

The deceased, identified as Brenda Nyirarimbagiza, a resident of Giko Village, Muramba Parish in Kisoro District, was found lying by the roadside in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to police reports, Nyirarimbagiza, who was said to have had a mental health condition and was often seen loitering around the village, was discovered dead at around midnight. Her mother, Muhawe Meridah, 45, reported the case to Muramba Police after confirming her daughter’s death.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed that the scene was visited by the homicide and SOCO teams, who documented evidence, recorded witness statements, and drew a sketch plan of the scene. The body was later taken to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police findings indicated that Nyirarimbagiza’s body had clear signs of violence, including a deep stab wound above the right side of her head. However, no struggle marks were found at the scene, raising questions about how the attack unfolded.

Investigations have since been opened under case file number CRB 637/2025. Authorities are calling on the public to share any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) behind the killing.

“Inquiries are ongoing, and any new developments will be communicated. We urge anyone with useful information to volunteer it so that the culprits are brought to book,” ASP Maate said.
