Members of the Katungu Tukore Association in Nyakagyeme Sub County are seeking assistance from authorities to recover funds they claim were mismanaged by their leaders.
On February 6, 2023, association members submitted a petition to the office of the RDC (Resident District Commissioner) seeking justice, alleging that their leaders mishandled their finances, resulting in substantial losses. Deputy RDC Wilberforce Ongom intervened in response to the petition.
According to the complaint, on December 19, 2023, members convened to distribute their savings. However, many left empty-handed as association leaders failed to account for the whereabouts of the funds. During a meeting with Deputy RDC Wilberforce, association chairperson Sura Kiniga stated that the association, which was established in 2013, operated successfully until 2017, when certain members borrowed money and subsequently defaulted on repayment.
The association’s treasurer, Eunice Kamusiime, reported that the outstanding loan balance is 10,630,100, with members seeking to recover 8,847,300.
In response, Deputy RDC Ongom instructed association leaders to demonstrate progress in recovering members’ funds within one month. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of leaders to pursue the recovery of funds in cases of borrower default, rather than members bearing the losses unjustly.
Chairperson Kiniga assured members, in the presence of Deputy RDC Ongom, that every effort would be made to facilitate the recovery of their funds.
